11 - Thicker Arguments, Slovenia Debate

American debaters and judges are often very familiar with their topics because they debate them many times. Thus, everyone is familiar with the major arguments and they do not get developed as deeply as they could. In World Schools you debate a topic usually only once, and the speeches are longer (8 minutes), so there is more time for development. Internationally acclaimed debate trainer Rhydian Morgan of the UK discusses the need to develop "thicker" arguments that are more persuasive and more difficult to defeat. After that, we will discuss the very successful debate program of Slovenia with their national coaches, Bojana Skrt and Miha Andric, about how they are organized, their methods, goals and their role in the WSDC tournament structure.
